SPECIAL DELIVERY: FOR BEAUTY AFICIONADOS

I saved the best for last…

Truth, this whole series actual came about as a result of a lunchtime discussion on beauty boxes.  It’s been a long time coming, but this is the final blog in this series and it goes out to my friend Sheryl Leigh, who inspired it.

Drumroll please.  In alphabetical order (no preferences here)…

Birchbox

The grand dame of beauty boxes, Birchbox is probably the most well know of subscription sites offering customized beauty and product samples.  I really enjoy this site because it includes videos, articles, and inspirational how-to’s for both men and women, in addition to selling a la carte beauty products.

Subscriptions are $10 per month and you can do as small as a 3 month subscription (total $30), but the price break only comes at the 12-month point. May Composite Box 1080x1080

BoxyCharm

BoxyCharm offers full-size beauty products, a trend I tend to see in beauty boxes.  I like this site because they’ve created a community that allows their “charmers” to share looks and tutorials using the products in the box.

Subscription are $21 per month with no minimum subscription – however, the price does drop slightly if you’re ready to commit to at least three months.  Added benefit – free shipping.

Cocotique

A subscription box that’s especially friendly for those of the African American persuasion, Cocotique delivers 5-8 expertly curated beauty and lifestyle samples to your door.  The box includes products from skin care, hair care, fragrance, nail and lifestyle companies incHomepage_Module_Images_Giftluding African Pride, Black Opal, and Creme of Nature among a host of other brands.

A monthly subscription will run you $20 per month (shipping is free) and you can cancel anytime after your first box has shipped so there is no commitment required.  The site also offers six- and twelve-month subscriptions and also posts a blog.

Curlbox

Curlbox is all about the hair, delivering a monthly box of hair products and samples for $20.  I especially appreciate their themed boxes that allow you to explore an entire product line.  On the site currently is a spa day box that includes Shea Moisture hair and body products and one titled “Get It Nana” featuring Creme of Nature – a throwback to how our moms used to roll.

Essence Beauty Box

Created especially for women of color, the Essence Beauty Box offers a monthly shipment of products curated by Essence Magazine beauty experts.  Even better, each box includes a product from at least one black-owned business.

Three-, six-, and twelve-month subscriptions are available starting at $15 per month.  The site also includes product reviews from other users.

GlossyBox

GlossyBox offers some of the prettiest boxes that I’ve seen.  Subscribers receive six full-size
deluxe beauty products.  GlossyBox separates itself by offering luxury products.  I was impressed by their list which includes pricey products like Butter/London, Essie, and Fresh among others.

Their subscriptions run $21 per month (gotta love that price point) for monthly and six-month plans.  The price per month drops to $18.50 if you subscribe for a year.

Ipsy

Created by Michelle Phan of YouTube fame, Ipsy is the closest equivalent to Birchbox.

The subscription is just $10 per month for 5 products (sample and full-size) that come in their own case (which looks to change monthly).  I also like that you take a short quiz to personalize your subscription.

Be Inspired.
